Summary:

Midwestern Electric, LLC seeks a highly motivated and detail-oriented Safety Technician to collaborate directly with electrical construction crews to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. This crucial role requires a strong understanding of electrical safety regulations, a proactive approach to hazard identification, and the ability to utilize data to drive continuous safety improvements. The successful candidate will be a key player in reducing incidents and fostering a culture of safety on our construction projects.

Responsibilities:

1. On-Site Safety Oversight & Collaboration:

  • Actively work alongside electrical construction crews, providing real-time safety guidance and support.
  • Conduct frequent job site inspections to identify and assess potential hazards
  • Collaborate with project managers and crew supervisors to develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations (OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, etc.).
  • Participate in pre-task planning meetings, providing input on safe work procedures and ensuring all personnel are appropriately trained.

2. Data-Driven Safety Analysis & Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain detailed records of safety inspections, near misses, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Utilize data analysis techniques to identify trends, pinpoint high-risk activities, and track the effectiveness of safety initiatives.
  • Prepare comprehensive safety reports, including statistical analysis of key safety metrics (e.g., incident rates, injury severity, etc.).
  • Present findings and recommendations to management, proposing data-backed strategies for continuous safety improvement.

3. Training & Education:

  • Deliver or assist in the delivery of safety training to construction crews, covering topics such as electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard recognition, and incident reporting.
  • Reinforce safe work practices through regular toolbox talks, ensuring all personnel understand and comply with safety procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis:
  • Investigate all incidents (accidents, injuries, near misses), conducting thorough root cause analyses to identify contributing factors.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports, providing recommendations to prevent recurrence. Ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with insurance providers to ensure accurate reporting and documentation.

5. Emergency Response:

  • Participate in the development and implementation of emergency response plans.
  • Ensure readily available and properly maintained emergency equipment (first aid, fire extinguishers, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in electrical construction safety, ideally with experience directly working alongside crews.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Certification and familiarity with electrical safety standards (NEC, NFPA 70E).
  • Relevant electrical safety certifications (e.g., Arc Flash Training, etc.) highly desirable.
  • Excellent understanding of safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Strong data analysis skills and experience utilizing data to improve safety outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate safety information and build positive relationships with workers at all levels.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
